Introducing the Torq Head

Introducing the torq head

In June NODO introduced the first Torq Head prototype at Cine Gear 2023.

Torq Head is a new type of cinematic camera head. It can be a remote head, a handheld gimbal, a steadicam head, and even a fluid head—with digital mass, drag, and counterbalance. NODO brought MAX Inertia Motors™ to the camera, and since the motors can take new shapes, the Torq Head is a new take on the motorized head's form factor.

The result? Fast single-axis rebalancing between lens changes, a roll axis that is one massive motor, a modular form factor that can be rebuild for the shot, and tons of torque density. All in just 12lbs*.

Torq Head uses a new configuration with the camera bolted directly to one thin large diameter roll motor with the lens rigidly nodal. And then the entire roll/camera/lens assembly is on sliding dovetails for balancing. This design means that balancing between lens changes is as easy as balancing on a tripod: sliding forward/backward only. Additionally, the roll motor is tremendously power-dense as the motor has inches of leverage.

Designed from day one with Ignite Digi Australia's time-saving camera accessories, the Torq Head is ready for camera builds of all types and will evolve with operator feedback.

NODO has witnessed first hand how operators are pushing gimbals, steadicams, remote heads farther and faster. Creativity flows when the camera can move freely and respond to conditions and wants. With the new custom designed motors, NODO has designed the Torq Head as the puzzle piece to unite the on-set camera build workflows. The Inertia Wheels brought an unparalleled level of cross-platform creative freedom. The Torq Head will bring a new level of cross-setup creative freedom.
